Most professional web design companies start with an interview. So, before we get started designing a web site, there are some questions that I like to ask my customers. These questions are very important to determine what you, the customer, are looking to do with your web site, and also helps to lay out a design plan. Below you will find some of those questions.
- What is the mission of your company?
- What are the goals and objectives of your web site?
- Who is your target audience, and what are their expectations?
- How do you want your audience to use the site?
- Who is the competition?
- Will anyone else be working on the web site (adding content, creating graphics, etc...?
- Is there a deadline for the site to become active?
- Who is responsible for making the final web site design decision?
- Has your company setup a budget for initial design and basic maintenance?
These initial questions will lead to a better understanding of what the customer wnats and expects from their web site. Every customer is unique with regards to their expectations, so designing a web site to meet their needs is extremely important. Not every customer wants a web site that meets the designers likes and dislikes, that's why it's so important to understand the customer.

There are many different web design styles. Designs can range from using templates (like this one from Fatma Hassan) to totally customized sites. Chosing the design that is right for you will more than likely be addressed in our first meeting. Since the customer's budget plays an important part in the design they choose, it's important they understand the options available.
If a customer's budget is small, there are many free templates available on the Internet. JLS Designs It has the ability to download and use that template that will fit even the smallest of budgets. As you can see by the template I use (mainly as an example), templates can be very professional looking. So if you budget is small, you may want to consider using a template. Spend some time searching the Internet for templates.
During your search, you may notice different layouts and color schemes. Navigation may be on the top, right, or left hand side of the page. Again, it's a personal preference of the customer. If you're planning on using a template, pay close attention to the color schemes. Finding one that fits your company's brand is important.
